STATE NEWS
Linda Darling-Hammond has officially accepted the role to head up President-elect Barack Obama's education policy for the transition team. She has been rumored to be one of the potential picks for Secretary of Education. Professor Darling-Hammond's position is to head the team in gathering ideas on how to turn Obama's key education priorities into legislation.
Linda Darling-Hammonds background includes not only a highly regarded role in education research on effective teachers and schools she is also the founder and co-director of the School Redesign Network which work towards improving underperforming schools. Even if she is not named Secretary of Education she has a very strong chance of working high up in the Obama Administration. She is confident that this will be a bold new future for education and she envisions public schools "...preparing kids to problem-solve, think critically, design research and produce strong intellectual work as a result."
